PAINTING
A quick look at my painting process of Taskmaster's face mask for Marvel's Black Widow style guide. The original concept art provided by Marvel was not suitable for high-res output so I was tasked with repainting the art at a much higher res. While doing so I had to maintain the look and feel of the concept art plus add any newer updates made to the costume by the designers. (As you can see, I did not use photos or up-res the art.) This is not my normal way of painting but I find this process makes it easy to maintain the target look. It also gives me a decent level of control over the various parts I'm painting, which in turn, helps with any further revisions that might be requested.
An assortment of imagery painted in Photoshop. I do not use photos in my work and often incorporate traditional painting techniques in my digital art.
CONCEPT ART/ VISUAL DEVELOPMENT
A collection of images including character, environment, prop, and vehicle designs. The Marvel samples are fictitious and purely created as fan art. The rest are from projects that are either live, in-production, or sadly on the cutting room floor.
ILLUSTRATION
I am a traditionally trained illustrator and have worked my entire career as a staff artist in many artistic areas. Because of this, I have developed a wide range of styles I can comfortably work with. Here are a few examples of that variety.
GRAPHIC DESIGN/ SET DRESSING
My first professional job was in the fast-paced world of NYC agency work. As a result of being immersed in that industry, I developed competitive skills in packaging, marketing, and graphic design. Because I am an illustrator, logo designs seemed to always fall in my lap. This is a small example of the many I have created. I also painted the city image below to serve as a contextual visual that I could populate with my environmental graphic designs.
